It is just a model number, just like my 55 Chevy short-body big-window stepside says 3100 and my 95 Chevy short-body big-window stepside is a 1500. I know that is a real beauty, with those smooth sides. It is not like, say, the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 which stood for 4-speed transmission, 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. It is kinda like the Z-28, which just sounded cool (did anybody ever see a Z-27), or the Fairlane 500 (maybe they just hoped people would buy at least 500 of them).
