What would cause a/c air volume to decrease intermittently on my 1995 1/2 ton chevy truck?

The recirculate button increases the air flow out of the a/c vents but for some reason the air volume increases and decreases when it want to. The truck is a 1995 chevy 1/2 ton truck with a 350 and atm trans.

Does the decrease air volume happen when you accelerate and increase when you back off the gas ??, if this is the case start looking for a vacuum leak, it sounds like one of the vent doors are not staying closed.

Most of these systems are designed to cause the door to flip over to defrost, so if you should have a big vacuum leak at least you’ll get air deflected to the windshield. Next time it happens put your fingers up where the defroster vents are and you will probably feel air start to come out. There is a plastic line that comes off the manifold and goes into the firewall through a rubber grommet. It eventually goes to the switch that controls the vacuum to all the doors. Most of the time the leak is under the hood as heat tends to crack the plastic line. You may still have the vacuum diagram sticker under the hood that will guide you. The other possibility is that the fan motor is ready to die.
