The Chevy trucks around that time have what's called a T.B.I. ( throttle body injector ) mounted on top of the carburetor area. This controls the amount of fuel going into the intake. They ( 1 or both ) may be going out. If that isn't the problem go ahead and have the distributor cap and rotor replaced.
