If diesel, dirty air filter, clogged injectors, Injector body out of time, bad fuel. Not normal under any circumstances. I have a 3.0 turbo Diesel 4X4 2 1/2 years and it doesn't smoke.

NOTE; That new get it back to the dealer under warranty

Black smoke from a diesel is not normal unless the truck is pulling a very heavy load. The owner probably modified to get more horsepower, therefore making fuel consumption worse and putting more fuel than the engine can burn at takeoff thereby causing black smoke.

As previously mentioned it could be a diesel engine, but if it is a gas motor,it probably has a bad injector(s) or sensors out of tolerance.either way owner needs to have it brought back for service,(unless a diesel, then it is normal).
