yes, take it to a used cars dealr, and trade it with a japanese car; you need to pay some extra cash as well

I love trucks, thats a nice car too, keep it! And to save gas? well, dont drive too much. Make some money (get a job). Or you can save up and get it checked at a less schuab or somthing. And if you dont want to pay for oil changes every 3 months or so you can learn to change it yourself. my dad is teaching me how to change my oil… girl power. but anyway.. good luck and happy holidays

Better gas mileage in that year of pickup is a lost cause. You will be money ahead to get the most money you can selling it, and geting good deal on a high mileage car or mini-pickup

Those old trucks used carburetors, usually a four barrel if it’s a v8. Switch to a large 2 barrel about 600cfm, Carter makes a good one. Run street tread tires with about 40 psi, and keep it tuned at all times. Get a dual exhaust system and keep the trucks’ weight down, don’t put on any heavy accessories. Not sure if you meant mph or mpg, either way lowering it a bit, stock tires and a bed cover will help. Gradually as time and money add up you will find yourself modifying it the way you prefer, but for now these common sense tips will help your mileage. Try some publications for classics, they have alot of info too.

Well, i cant agree with the guy who says get a two barrel. Youre better off with a 4 barrel because the primaries on a 4barrel are smaller than the primaries on a 2 barrel. If you dont hammer on it youll get good mileage–dont get wide fat tires, and make sure theyre aired up completely. Other than that just give it a good tune up and drive it easy is the best way.

I agree a factory Quadrajet 4 barrel carb will blow any 2 barrel carb away with gas millage as long as you keep your foot out of the secondaries. If it is a I 6 motor you have a 2 barrel already. I have been playing with / rebuilding 73 -87 Chevy trucks for almost 20 years. Parts are cheap so a little less millage is OK because when it comes to repairs you will save a few $ there. As stated before a tune up including fuel, air filters, Keep the oil changed, tires correct inflation etc. is true for any car or truck.
Why does it have 4 gas tanks? It should only have one or two was an option from the factory. Get rid of the two aftermarket ones. the more gas you carry with you the more weight. hence cutting into your millage.

I use the name Blazin there as I have a full size Blazer I wheel the wee out of. Lots of good info and people there.

should have only had 2 -16 gallon tanks, I agree ditch the other two. I only used 1 of the two in my 82 and 87. Another good message board is . I also agree the stock 4 brl carb is good enough as long as you keep your foot out of it. If it is in tune and has stock type tires on it you could get about 13-15 mpg. I got 8 in my 82 due to 32″ tires, but got 16.5 in my 87 due to stock tires and an OD trans.
