considering the fact that most shops charge anywhere between $55 & $75 per hour for labor (dealerships charge around $100/hr) & they have 4 to 6 hrs into it, I think they were in the ballpark.

the rebuilt carb fixed the dying & the caliper prevented it from pulling.

they should have told you how much it was going to cost first, unless you gave them the ok to fix it - I think this is a state law though. most shops have a clause on their repair orders that say something like "if it will be more than $100 we will contact the customer"

Those vehicles had what is called an "electronically controlled carburetor" Basically a standard carb. with added switches and elect. solenoid. inside, this unit rebuilt can get pricey. You did not break down parts cost versus labor so it is hard to tell. The caliper job would be appx. 125.00 to 175.00 parts and labor. I usually rebuild those carbs. for about 175.00 to 200.00 parts and labor. (throttle shaft bushed if needed) A "rebuild/remanufactured " carb. could be very expensive if this was majority of cost find out what camparible prices are in your area. Expect some mark up on your part, but not outrageous.

Actually, it sounds like you got off cheap. I wouldn't think they ripped you off. Providing they did what they said they did, and I would guess that they did. Don't be afraid to take the truck back to those guys. good luck

well..the older the car is the less expensive it is to fix it because buying things for an old car would be cheaper b/c you dont see those things anymore. Fixing it will be no problem b/c they were trained to fix old cars new cars are easier to fix and more expensive. no they didn't rip you off, they wud have charged you double the amount.
