I Merc's answer is correct. have the pump gasket attached to the fuel pump and the two attaching bolts ready. Another way to hold the push rod , there are three verticle bolts at the right front of the engine around the the corner from the pump. Remove the lower bolt and replace with a bolt apprx half inch longer. Push the rod back in the block with your left finger. With light tension, lock this bolt aginst the push rod. Re bolt your fuel pump and remove lthe tension bolt and replace the original bolt.

The arm must be positioned under the rod. Most people use a short peace of hack saw blade to hold the rod up while arm is slipped in under the rod. It is easier said than done but it will work with a little practice.

With the engine cold, coat the rod with grease and push it back up. It will stay up long enough to install the pump correctly.
