Timing is of coarse a possibility but I would look more into your fuel problems, if you actually have a carb. which would be pretty uncommon, I would check to make sure the choke is properly adjusted try idleing the car and adjusting the mixture. Take the distributor cap off and check to see if there is any thing corroded inside. If it is it might need to be replaced. I've had this happen once with a fuel injected 350 and it only would go maybe 4 miles at a time until it stalled out. Well hope this helps ya. Could be your rotary button inside of your distributor.
