the tranny you have is a good one when it works right i know because i had one in an 88 iroc camaro. it may be in the valve body inside the tranny if not then the torque converter is not producing the necessary pressure for the thing to shift and unfortunately the only way to tell is to have a pressure check done at your local transmisssion shop. good luck because they charged me 1000 bucks to rebuild mine. try to9 go to a repuable shop for the repair.

A 700 goes into OD by applying the 2-4 band in 3rd gear. If you have 2nd the band is ok. Make sure the T V cable is not to tight and adjust if nessesary. Adjustment is simple: push the little button on the cable and pull it all the way tight, then fully open the throttle and it will pull the cable to the correct tension. The governor controls shift points in response to output shaft speed and T V pressure. It could be dirty or faulty.

Sometimes its as easy low tranny fluid, too much tranny fluid, bad filter, vacuum hose came off. My car wouldn't shift one time because the vacuum hose popped off. Try looking at those things first.
