3 INCH SHOULD SUFFICE,STRAIGHT BACK WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST SOUND,THE LEAST AMOUNT OF CURVE IN THE PIPE WILL GIVE THE BEST SOUND,ALSO TRY A FLOWMASTER 40 MUFFLER,DYNOMAX MUFFLERS ARE ALSO REALLY GOOD.

In high school we would use dual 3-inch pipes to glass packs to 18-inch echo tips. This made for a really loud truck.

Dual 3″ pipes is overkill for a stock 305. 3″ would be fine for a single pipe, 2.5″ are more than adequate for a 305. They are also a bit easier to bend around the trans crossmember. Most often you have to have one pipe go over the cross member and one pipe go under.
If the pipes are run out the back you wont hear them as much in the cab, if they are run out the sides you will hear them more and the sound will bounce back off objects on the side of the road, if you just dump them under the bed it will resonate in the cab.
