the 5.0L / 305 wasnt an option for the 2500 series trucks, the 5.7L / 350 was standard.

The 5.0 is a 305 engine, the 5.7 is the 350, Chevy also has a 307. There are engine difference that you can not see, but the carburator will be a 2 barrel on a 5.0 and a 4 barrel on a 5.7. Also you can tell by the VIN number. The auto parts store will help you with that. Also there should be a label with emissions info on it that will say what engine you have. I have seen those worn away though and the VIN number is the best bet. I would say with a 3/4 ton truck you have a 5.7.

What year is it?? The tag may or may not be right under the hood. Check your block numbers. Then check out They list all Chevy sb head and block casting numbers. Odds are if its the orginal motor in the truck, with it being a 3/4 ton, its probably a 350 (5.7) But casting numbers are the ONLY real way to tell. VIN or engine stickers won’t work cause the engine could have been replaced. Mortec can also tell you EXACTLY where to look for the casting numbers.

edselmanll’s your a dipshit, now that i got that out in the open, i would do what sparky said on the sb chevy they are located on the drivers side at the back of the motor behined the head on a small platform. once you find them do a yahoo search for sbc casting numbers

To make sure, check the casting numbers on the engine block. Because the engine might have been changed this is the only way to confirm what engine is in your truck.

I’ll bet the 8th digit in the VIN is a “K”. 350. TBI’s from 87 thru about 95.

the 5.0 is a old Ford, all the chevs have 5.7 L

The VIN will tell you the size of the engine you have. It should be the ninth number/letter if i remember correctly. But don’t hold me to that. If you have your owner’s manual just search through it and find out what you have. It might have helped had we known the year of the truck we are working with.

The engine displacement(5.0 litre for a 305, 5.7 litre for a 350) should appear on a sticker with emission control/belt routing info located under the hood near the latch.
