Everyone has already concentrated on the obvious, and they are correct. The oil change is the single most important consideration, followed by all of the other fluids, transmission oil probably being second. I held on to my last truck for 260,000 miles and it was still going when I finally got another, after 12 years.

Two additional items; keeping it in a garage helps keep the body from going, and finally, don't plow with it. That'll kill a truck faster than anything.

maintain it, 3k oil changes, 15k air filter changes, 30k trans fluid changes, 50k differential fluid changes and wash it at least once a month. if you want it to stay pretty, wax it twice a year. 300k is no problem for today's vehicles.

Follow the severe maintenance schedule. Use synthetic oil and change every 3000 miles.

* Follow the maintenance guide in your owner's manual and make needed repairs promptly.
    * Use only the recommended types of fluids, including oil and transmission fluids.
    * Check under the hood regularly. Listen for strange sounds, sniff for odd smells and look for fraying or bulges in pipes or belts. Also, get a vehicle service manual. They're available at most auto parts stores or your dealership.
    * Clean the car carefully inside and out. This not only helps the car's appearance but can prevent premature rust. Vacuuming the inside also prevents premature carpet wear from sand and grit.
    * Use only the best Synthetic Oil, Amsoil being
my oil of choice. 0W-30 is good for 25,000 miles when used with thier filters.
