The handle inside the cab doesn’t release the hood when I pull it. It’s beyond just slamming my hand on the top of the hood to pop the catch.

you failed to mention what year it is ……… but on some chevy trucks you can remove the grill and get to the latch once you do that you will need to buy a hood release cable assembely
