After being redesigned last year, Chevrolet’s full-size truck enters 2008 with only minor changes. The Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is available in several bodystyles, trims, and drivetrain configurations: Regular Cab, Extended Cab, or Crew Cab bodystyles, short or long bed lengths, three trims levels: Work Truck, LT, and LTZ, and 2WD or 4WD drivetrain configurations.

The standard Vortec 6000 V8 SFI engine in Silverado 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD and 3500 models provides more power than the standard engine in Ford Super-Duty pickups.

The tested Chevy Silverado 3500 has an MSRP of $48,885 and is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and a Duramax 6.6-liter, 360-horsepower diesel V8 engine.

The Chevrolet Silverado 3500 was sold from 2001-’06 and lived for one final year in 2007 as the “3500 Classic.” These trucks came in standard, LS and LT trim levels. It was a reasonably comfortable truck for everyday use, but don’t expect the plush ride of its light-duty siblings.

The Transmission might not seem as important to the productivity of your Chevrolet / Chevy Silverado 3500 as something like the engine or transmission.

The light-duty trucks generally use the 1500 name. They are available in three cab lengths, 2-door short cab, 3 or 4-door extended cab, and front-hinged 4-door crew cab.

For the first year, only the regular cab and 3-door extended cab were available, along with the Vortec 4300 V6 (regular cab only), Vortec 4800 V8, and the Vortec 5300 V8.

GMC created an upscale version of its Sierra 1500 in 2001 called the Sierra C3. It used all-wheel drive and included the 6.0 L Vortec 6000 V8 rated at 325 hp (242 kW) with other upscale equipment.
