Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is Chevy’s toughest truck.
As of 2007, the Silverado pickup is the 2nd largest volume vehicle in the United States, behind the Ford F-Series pickup truck.
Even with truck sales way down and fuel prices way up, General Motors’ heavy-duty pickups have to keep up with changing federal regulations and the competition.
The 2008 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4WD is a 4-door, up to 6-passenger full size pickup, available in 8 trims, ranging from the Work Truck Standard Box to the LTZ Long Box. Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 6.0-liter, V8, 353-horsepower engine.The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks have been essentially the same for their entire history. The Silverado today is generally advertised as the “lower” version, while the Sierra has more luxury options.
Standard on all Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickups is a 6.0-liter V8 that makes 353 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The GMT800 Silverado/Sierra 1500 (light pickup trucks) were released in 1998 as 1999 models.
The previous-generation Silverado 2500HD was sold from 2001-’06 and lived on for one additional year as the “Classic.” There was a heavy-duty package available for the light-duty Silverado 2500 in 1999 and 2000.
If its cargo and trucking capability your looking for – then the Chevrolet S10, the Chevrolet Colorado, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD or the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 SS are what you need.
The light-duty trucks generally use the 1500 name. They are available in three cab lengths, 2-door short cab, 3 or 4-door extended cab, and front-hinged 4-door crew cab.
It was a reasonably comfortable truck for everyday use, but don’t expect the plush ride of its light-duty siblings.
The previous generation of Chevrolet heavy-duty pickups ran from 1988-2000 and were simply known by their number nomenclature — 2500 (3/4-ton) and 3500 (1-ton). In keeping with tradition, one could choose either rear-wheel drive (indicated by a “C”, e.g. “C2500″) or four-wheel drive (indicated by a “K”).
The Silverado is also a study in truck safety with a sturdy ladder frame, crush zones and strong body structure to provide occupant protection.
