A new concept in truck design, the SUT or sports utility truck was unleashed in 2002. The Chevrolet Avalanche was created; combining the features of a pickup truck with a 6-passenger capacity of a sedan.
The Chevrolet Avalanche is a 6-seat, 4-door pickup truck that looks like and feels like an SUV. Basically, it is a Chevrolet Suburban SUV with an open cargo bed that is separated from the cab area using a midgate.
The four-door Chevrolet Avalanche is a sport utility truck created in 2002 by General Motors Corporation (GM), combining the power and abilities of a Sport Utility Vehicle and a pickup. The 2007 Avalanche offers two engine choices with Active Fuel Management: a 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 engine and a 366 horsepower Vortec 6.0L V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing.
The Chevy Avalanche received a full redesign in 2007 and this model represents the vehicle’s second generation. Based on GM’s latest full-size truck and SUV platform, this Avalanche has been improved with more powerful and fuel-efficient engines, additional luxury and safety features, sleeker exterior styling, a sharper and more precise driving feel, increased interior refinement and reduced levels of wind and road noise.The Chevrolet Avalanche features a Automatic transmission and Two Wheel Drive drivetrain on the base model Avalanche. The 2008 base model has an MSRP of $33,435.00 which is well within the range of most car buyers.
The original 2002-’06 Chevrolet Avalanche wasn’t as refined as the current model, but it did establish itself with its innovative midgate. In terms of passenger room and cargo bed versatility, this truck is very similar to the current one.
The Avalanche would be just another four-door pickup if it weren?t for the folding partition that separates the passenger compartment from the cargo bed. So, although the news for 2007 is that it?s now underpinned by GM?s new GMT900 full-size-truck platform, the stuff that makes it an Avalanche remains.
Under the front is GM’s full-size truck independent torsion bar suspension, while the rear carries a 5-link coil spring and live axle setup similar to Tahoe.
Production of the redesigned Avalanche began at the Silao Assembly in March of 2006.
